Rush Lake is a km 2 post‐glacial lake on the southern shore of Lake Superior (Hubbs ), which has one small, 80‐m pocket of deep water. A shallow‐water lean lake charr was described by Hubbs () as similar to those inhabiting the nearshore waters of Lake Superior. Hartman, W.L. Effects of exploitation, environmental changes, and new species on the fish habits and resources of Lake Erie. Technical Report Number Great Lakes Fishery Commission, Ann Arbor, MI. Havey, K.A. Effects of a smelt introduction on growth of landlocked salmon at Schoodic Lake.

A study of the food habits by means of stomach analyses of eight species of Lake Erie fishes was begun J The species studied were smelt, yellow perch, troutperch, spottail shiner, sheepshead, yellow walleye (hereafter termed walleye), gizzard shad, and alewife. In a similar manner, stomach analyses were made of the white bass and channel catfish. However, many people in North America do not distinguish the various Asian carp species and see them all as undesirable food fish because of their perceived bottom-feeding behavior, while, in fact, only some species are bottom-feeders. Furthermore even the bottom-feeding species such as the common carp, a highly bony species which was.

Second, we are interested in what fish eat, i.e. their position in the food web. In Lake Superior, lake trout occupy the top position in the food web. We have a hundred or so frozen lake trout stomachs with us and our students will dissect these and examine their contents to find out ‘how to make a lake trout'. Lake Victoria receives its water additionally from rivers, and thousands of small streams. The Kagera River is the largest river flowing into this lake, with its mouth on the lake's western shore. Lake Victoria is drained solely by the Nile River near Jinja, Uganda, on the lake's northern shore.

Introduction. In Lake Superior, an empirical lake-wide analysis of the ecological linkages of the offshore food web does not exist. Although Lake Superior has km of coastline (Chen et al., ), approximately 80% of the lake is classified as offshore (> 80 m depth), and this deepwater habitat is an important component of the lake ecosystem (Horns et al.,Matheson and Munawar, ).
